George Eastman House International Museum of Photography is presenting "Face of Asia: Steve McCurry Photographs" -- the largest, broadest exhibition of McCurry's 25-year career. As a photojournalist, McCurry works for National Geographic, Time, Newsweek and other worldwide publications. He has won multiple awards including Magazine Photographer of the Year in 1984, given by the National Press Photographers Association, and that same year, he garnered an unprecedented four first prizes in the World Press Photo Contest. His coverage of Afghanistan just prior to the Russian invasion won the Robert Capa Gold Medal for Best Photographic Reporting from Abroad, an award dedicated to photographers showing exceptional courage and enterprise.

In addition to Afghanistan, McCurry has covered many areas of international and civil conflict, including Beirut, Cambodia and the Gulf War. It was in 1984 in an Afghan refugee village that McCurry took his most recognized photograph, that of a young girl with penetrating green eyes. The photograph would go on to become an icon, first published on the cover of National Geographic in January 1985, then in dozens of other magazines around the world.

George Eastman House is located at 900 East Avenue in Rochester, New York. The exhibit is ongoing until August 31.
